DSF Board of Directors 2024 Election
Call for Nominations - Deadline: December 1, 2024

Are you interested in serving on the Board of the Diplomatic Security Foundation (DSF)? An election will be held this December (2024) for four open board positions. DSF Board members are responsible for upholding the mission of DSF which is to provide timely financial support and charitable contributions to members, and their immediate family, of the US Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security and colleagues in the law enforcement and US foreign affairs community.

Key Points:

  • Board members must be a current, former, or retired DS employee (from any Skill Code).
    - DSF Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) may not be a current direct hire DS employee.
    - Member-At-Large positions can be a direct hire.

  • Board members review requests for assistance (grants), manage the scholarship program, and oversee the general management and operations of the Foundation.

  • The time commitment for board members varies. President: 2-3 hour/wk; VP, Secretary, Treasurer: 1-2 hours/wk; Members-At-Large: 2-3 hours/month. DSF business is conducted mostly via email except for attendance or participation at two board meetings/conference calls a year.

  • Board positions are voluntary and receive no compensation.

  • No board member may serve more than two consecutive terms on the Board, without at least a one-full-calendar-year break in service on the Board. If re-elected to the DSF Board after the specified break in service, the two consecutive four-year terms clock restarts.

  • Current board members with expiring first terms may stand for another position on the board but may not be re-nominated for the same position (except for Members-At-Large positions).

  • DSF holds elections every two years. Those elected in 2024 will serve a four-year term from December 2024-December 2028. The next election will be held Fall 2026, term ending 2030.

The four positions open for 2024 election include:

  • Treasurer (must be a retired or former DS employee)

  • Secretary (must be a retired or former DS employee)

  • Members-At-Large position (open to current, former, or retired DS employee)

  • Members-At-Large position (open to current, former, or retired DS employee)

The current (2024) DSF Board is comprised of the following:

Term expiring 2024:

  • Doug Allison, Treasurer - completing second term, not eligible for re-election

  • Tim O’Brien, Secretary - eligible to run for a second term

  • Jeff Bozworth, Member-At-Large - completing second term, not eligible for re-election

  • Jessica Moore, Member-At-Large - eligible to run for a second term

Term expiring 2026:

  • Todd Brown, President - eligible to run for a second term

  • Matt Shedd, Vice President - eligible to run for a second term

  • John Hampson, Member-At-Large - may not run for re-election at end of second term

  • Jess Moore, Member-At-Large - eligible to run for a second term

Term continues until DSSAA Presidency ends:

  • Ken Davis, DSSAA President/DSF Member-At-Large (2024-TBD)

Nomination Process

This is a self-nominating process. Interested individuals should advise DSF of their candidacy via e-mail to Executive Director Sarah Rothleder (sarah@dsfoundation.org) no later than December 1, 2024. Nominees will be asked to submit a one paragraph bio by the December 1 deadline. No prior DSF Board experience is necessary. The current DSF Board will review all candidates and select the new board members. The new DSF Board will be announced by December 31, 2024.
